What is a Trip with PACH Like?

Spanish Skills

My Spanish interviewing skills, and my Spanish overall, improved immensely during this experience. I just got back to work, and before Ecuador, I would rarely attempt to speak Spanish, but my Spanish is now at a level that is much closer to being proficient for medical work.” 2025 Intern

Understanding Healthcare Systems

I learned to never judge a book by its cover. In each community we went to, there was different, mulit-faceted problems for each healthcare system that we would never have been able to see without detailed investigation. It gave me an appreciation for all of the different components that go into planning healthcare intervention. ” – 2025 Intern

Diverse Interactions

There were great opportunities to observe surgeries with local and visiting doctors, and because I speak Spanish I was able to help interpret for a visiting American doctor. My favorite part was visiting indigenous communities near Riobamba and learning about their health and nutrition needs.” 2023 Intern

Collaborate with Seasoned Professionals

My experience with PACH was absolutely incredible. I had the opportunity to visit Ecuador for the first time and was fully immersed in its rich culture. I appreciate the professionalism, organization, and respect PACH showed in terms of working with FIBUSPAM and treating our community partners and community members with respect and compassion. ” – 2019 Intern

Build Relationships

“I think that my favorite part of my internship was the relationships that I formed and all the amazing people that I met in these two months. None of this would be possible without hours of hard work and commitment, and I am deeply inspired by the dedication and passion of everyone I worked with.” 2024 Intern
